Čapková:  Z jabkenické myslivny

A new edition of Z jabkenické myslivny (From the Jabkenice Forest House) has just been published by the National Museum in Prague, featuring the visual concept and original illustrations by Paul Tuttas.

The memoirs of Běla Čapková, granddaughter of composer Bedřich Smetana, are accompanied by Paul Tuttas’ colour woodcuts depicting places in and around Jabkenice. His work also includes a detailed family tree and a portrait of the author.

To shape the visual direction of the book, Paul Tuttas visited the village of Jabkenice and the historic forest house, today part of the Bedřich Smetana Museum. Graphic designer Jan Stuchlík completed the publication design, integrating layers from woodcuts into the book’s opening and closing sections.
